Carpenter who allegedly eloped with client’s N450,000 docked in court

A 28-year-old carpenter, Ifeanyi Orji, who allegedly absconded with a client’s N450,000, on Tuesday appeared in a Karu Magistrates’ Court, Abuja.

he defendant, who resides at Aso “A”, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, is charged with criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal misappropriations.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Vincent Osuji, told the court that the complainant, Emeka Udibe, who resides in Apo Dutse, Abuja reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on Sept. 14.

Osuji alleged that the complainant, sometime in August, entrusted N450,000 to the defendant to produce five sets of bed, wardrobe, table and chairs.

However, he alleged that with intent of cheating the complainant, the defendant deliberately failed to the do the job and absconded with the money.

The offence, he said, contravenes and is punishable under sections 312, 322 and 309 of the Penal Code Law.

The Judge, Nuhu Abbah, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N400,000 bail with one reliable surety in like sum.

Abbah adjourned the case until Oct. 15, for hearing.
