College of Horticulture trains 522 women, youths on various agricultural entreprises

The Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin-Kiowa in Gombe state, has commenced a five-day training for 520 women and youths in various agricultural enterprises.

Prof. Fatima Sawa, Provost of the College, told newsmen in Dadinkowa town of Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of the state, that the training included production, processing and marketing activities.

She said the training was sponsored by Hajiya Binta Bello, member representing Kaltungo /Shongom Federal Constituency (PDP).

According to her, the training will focus on how the beneficiaries will develop interest in agriculture in line with the Federal Government’s policy on agriculture.

“As they partake in the training, they will develop in a particular area and become self-reliant.

“For instance, those trained on orchard will, in the next two to three years, begin to benefit from the turn-over.

“For those who will go into tomatoes processing, Gombe is well known for tomatoes production, yet, despite the massive tomatoes being produced are wasted.

“With this training, they will learn how to cultivate and process same,” she said.

Sawa said that after the training, they would be given some stipends and starter parks to start their businesses.
