The group believes that the party’s challenges are directly linked to Atiku’s ambition and the actions of certain party stalwarts during and after the 2023 general election.

A pressure group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to convince former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to abandon his presidential ambition for 2027.

The group, known as “PDP 100% Loyalty,” believes that Atiku’s continued pursuit of the presidency is hindering the party’s progress.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the National Chairman of the group, Mr. Dennis Shima (JP), also called for the suspension of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister due to his association with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Shima highlighted the party’s inability to suspend former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, despite his open support for the APC in the last election.

The group believes that the party’s challenges are directly linked to Atiku’s ambition and the actions of certain party stalwarts during and after the 2023 general election.

They are urging NEC to request Atiku, a former Vice President and two-time PDP presidential candidate, to support one of his mentees for the party’s presidential ticket in 2027.

The group sees this as an opportunity for Atiku to demonstrate statesmanship and contribute to the growth of the party.

They also called on NEC to exercise its power and authority, as outlined in the PDP constitution, to suspend Nyesom Wike from participating in party meetings and functions until he officially leaves his role in the APC-led federal government.

According to Shima, taking these actions would uphold the rule of law and serve as a deterrent to those who believe they can gain political relevance within the PDP while disregarding the party’s constitution and legitimate authorities in Nigeria.

By making these decisions, the PDP NEC would uphold party discipline and ensure that the party’s constitution is respected.
