Two men, Mubarak Sahadu and Abdulrahman Umar, on Thursday, appeared before a Karu Garde I Area Court, sitting in Abuja, for allegedly belonging to a robbery gang.

The defendants, of no fixed address, are facing a count charge of belonging to a gang of armed robbers.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.

The Prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that the defendants were arrested and brought to Nyanya Police Station on July 19.

He said that the duo were found conducting themselves in a manner capable of causing undue apprehension in a neighborhood.

Adeyanju said that the conduct of the defendants could create fear in the mind of any reasonable person, with intent to commit felony.

“During police investigation, it was discovered that the defendants were equally suspected to be part of criminals who specialised in robbing, extorting and indulging in other unwholesome behaviours within the neighbourhood,” the prosecutor further told the court.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 309 and 199 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Inuwa Maiwada, granted the defendants bail in sum of N50,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.

Maiwada, thereafter, adjourned the case till Sept. 7, for hearing
