Egypt’s Taba and Marsa Matrouh Inernational Airports have received certificates of health accreditation from the Airports Council International (ACI).

The Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation stated this on Tuesday thus increasing the number of Egyptian airports recognised as being safe to 11.

The ministry said in a statement that the certificate recognised each airport’s commitment to prioritising health and safety measures in accordance with the recommendations and guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the ACI.

.
It added that the two certificates, issued on June 28, would expire after a year.

It listed the other nine Egyptian international airports that had received the ACI certificates as Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh, Marsa Alam, Borg el-Arab, Luxor, Aswan, Sohag and Assiut.

“Thus, Egypt becomes one of the first countries in Africa and in the Middle East in terms of the number of airports obtaining this certificate,’’ the statement said.

Egypt had suspended all international flights on March 19, 2020, as a precautionary measure against the COVID-19, and resumed on July 1, 2020, in a bid to revive the declining tourism.
