48 students of UniUyo graduate with first class during the universities’ 25th convocation

No fewer than 48 students of the University of Uyo would be formerly awarded First Class degree at the institution’s 25th convocation scheduled for Saturday.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Enefiok Essien announced this at a news conference to herald the convocation at the university in Uyo on Tuesday.

Essien also disclosed that the 4,308 graduands would be awarded various degrees.

The vice chancellor said that the university recorded 64 professorial promotions in 2019 alone, and 115 between 2017 and 2019.

“In the forthcoming convocation, the university will award certificates, diplomas, first degrees, masters’ degrees and doctoral degrees to graduands who have been adjudged suitable in character and learning.

“In addition to this, there will be two honorary doctorate degree awardees’’
Essien said that as a means of boosting its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), the university would inaugurate its fuel station.

The vice chancellor added that as part of the event, the university would also inaugurate an external electrification, renovation and rehabilitation ventures as well as a mechanical engineering workshop.

The vice chancellor further disclosed that the university Senate had approved the running of Nursing Science as a course.

He said that the university would soon commence degree programmes in Physiotherapy, Radiology and Dentistry, adding that the National Universities Commission (NUC) would visit the institution for resource verification.

According to him, the university recorded a feat by introducing electronic voting during students’ union elections which enabled them to cast their votes at the comfort of their hostels without molestation.

He said that the innovation had greatly reduced conflicts associated with students’ union elections on campus.

Essien added that the university had also established “Centre for Deep Dialogue and Critical Thinking’’, in affiliation with the Dialogue Institute of Temple University, Philadelphia, U.S.A. to contribute to problem solving in the country.

He said that the welfare of staff remained a priority in the institution, adding that the staff morale had been boosted with the payment of their allowances by the Federal Government.

The vice chancellor commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his concern for university staff welfare.
