80 units of tricycles donated to disabled people in Daura by BGHC
Beautiful Gate Handicapped Center (BGHC), a Jos-based NGO, has donated 80 units of tricyles to people living with special needs across the five council areas of Daura emirate in Katsina State.
Mr Ayuba Birki, BGHC Country Director, who presented the tricycles to the beneficiaries in Daura on Monday, said the gesture was aimed at alleviating their sufferings.
He said Zango, Baure and Maiadua council areas were allocated 14 tricycles each, Daura recieved 25 tricycles while Sandamu council area got 10 units of the tricycles.
He said the NGO felt obliged and morally committed to have extended such gestures for humanitarian concerns.
Earlier in his remarks, Adamu Shuaibu-Jigawartsada, Vice Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons Living With Disability, commended the NGO for the gesture and urged “all the well-to- do people to emulate the philanthropic concern towards its members”.
He encouraged people with special needs not to despair but to turn their disability to ability and make meaningful impact in their lives and society.
Shuaibu, who represented Dutse constituency between 2011 and 2015 in Jigawa State House of assembly, assured the people with special needs of their commitment and determination to lift them up with moral, financial and spiritual assistance.
Dr Don Rice, the sponsor of the NGO, said the body had so far distributed 19,000 tricycles free to people living with disability across some 33 Nigerian states in the last 23 years.
He said the organization’s decision to engage in such humanitarian venture was out of the passion and concern for the handicapped, adding, “we would continue to provide such generous initiatives by expanding our scope of coverage”.
In his remarks, Malam Abba Mato, Daura Council Chairman, lauded the donors and assured them that the council would emulate the gesture by providing similar tricycles to deserving indigent persons.
Isah Shehu, one of the beneficiaries, who was crippled by polio virus, commended the efforts of the organization for considering them worthy of the gesture
He assured that they would make judicious use of the facility in pursuing lawful ventures such as schooling, trading and other essential engagements that might demand their presence, saying “we will not use the cycles as begging tools”.
