Air Chief calls for pragmatic policies to enrich educational system
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall, Sadiq Abubakar, on Monday called on teachers and education administrators in the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) to evolve pragmatic policies that would enrich the service educational system.
Abubakar made the call during the NAF Teachers Training Workshop for 2018/2019, held at the Air Force Comprehensive Secondary School, Kaduna.
The 3-day workshop has as its theme, 'Professionalism and Integrity in Education Management.’
Supreme Magazine reports that the Air Chief was represented by Chief of Administration, NAF Headquarters, AVM Kingsley Lar.
“The emphasis of this workshop on professionalism and effective management is a clarion call on all teachers and school administrators to evolve pragmatic policies towards enriching the NAF educational system,” he stressed.
According to him, adequate and proper professional training would engender requisite management skills that would add value to the system.
He noted that various education quality assurance reports had harped on the need to ensure effective professional training on educational management for improved teaching and learning.
Abubakar therefore said that the workshop was part of efforts to give impetus for an in-depth focus on professionalism and educational management in the system.
He said that the workshop was also in compliance to the demands of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria Mandatory Continuous Professional Development programme for teachers and school administrators.
“I implore the workshop organizers to ensure that participants are properly educated on effective lesson delivery, record keeping, staff welfare, discipline, promotion etc within the school environment.
“I also call on all participants to take this workshop seriously and be present in all the lectures and interactive sessions.
The CAS said at the end of the workshop he expects “focus on new orientation necessary to enhance teachers’ awareness of technology integration for efficient lesson delivery and administration.
“Through the process of cross-fertilization of ideas and constructive deliberations I am rest assured that you will come up with clear and practical recommendations useful to the NAF school system.
“For the participants, resource persons must note that our joint commitment of provision of quality education will only become a reality when basic school management tools and teaching methods are efficiently applied by well trained, knowledgeable and educated teachers.”
He added that a good teacher is expected to love the job, be well prepared and proud of teaching the students.
“Let us in our daily self-application in the classroom emulate the qualities and attributes of a good teacher such as patience, compassion, non-judgmental, empathetic, discrete and authentic.”
Also the Air Officer, Air Training Command Kaduna, AVM Muhammad Sulaiman said capacity development is one of the core values being promoted by the Air Chief.
According to him, the workshop would enable the participants to learn new things that would add value to the system.
Newsmen report that 80 teachers from NAF comprehensive schools across the country are participating in workshop.
