A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, on Thursday issued a bench warrant for the arrest a couple, Mohammed and Mariam Atiku over their failure to appear for trial without any reason.

The also issued the warrant for Nura Lawal, 29, Abba Yunusa, 20, Awal Abdullahi, 20 and Lawal Sani, 20.

The police charged the defendants with four counts of criminal conspiracy, criminal force, assault and causing hurt, to which they had pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Aliyu Shafa also ordered that the administrative bail earlier granted to the defendants be revoked.

Shafa said that a notice be sent to their sureties to show cause and adjourned the matter until Sept. 22 for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Abudullahi Tanko, told the court that the defendants were not in court and prayed the court to revoke their bail grant and issue a warrant of arrest on all the defendants.

Tanko told the court that the sureties were not also in court to explain why the defendants were absent.

He prayed the court to exercise its discretion on the matter.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel told the court that the complainant, Mr Shegunle Oreoluwa, of the same address reported the matter at the police station, on April 4.

He said that the defendants conspired with others at large and attacked him with cutlasses and axe while he was evacuating his toilet chamber in the compound.

He alleged that during the attack the complainant sustained grievous injuries on his head and body.

Tanko said the complainant spent N4,000 at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for treatment.

He further disclosed that during the attack the complainant’s wallet containing N22,170 and a necklace valued at N15,000 got missing.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 97, 263, 264 and 240 of the Penal Code.
