Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has hailed Tobi Amusan as one of Nigeria’s best athletes in spite of her fourth place finish at the 100 metres hurdles final of the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.

Supreme reports that Amusan on Monday finished fourth in 12.60 seconds, just 0.05 seconds behind Megan Tapper of Jamaica (bronze) to miss out of the hurdles medals at the Games.

Dare who is also in Tokyo to support the athletes however hailed Amusan’s performance describing her as a great Nigerian ambassador.

“Tobi Amusan still remains one of Nigeria’s greatest competitors in athletics. She gave a good account of herself. We celebrate her exploits.

“The important thing to note is that many of our top athletes made it and are still making it to the finals in many events particularly here at the Olympics; a competition of huge magnitude where winners are separated in milliseconds.

”This in itself is an achievement and proof that we are in the committee of the best in respect to many sports in the world, ‘” the minister said.

Dare said Team Nigeria was still hopeful of winning medals in the remaining events of the Tokyo Olympics.

“This is a new and young generation that will be world beaters anyhow.

“We still hold hopes for medals in the remaining events we are taking part in,” Dare said.

Supreme reports that Team Nigeria’s quest for medals continues in the track and field and wrestling events.

Supreme reports that Amusan Won the 2018 Commonwealth and 2019 African Champions events.

She is also a two-time African Games champion.
