The Badagry Local Government has unveiled a grassroots movement (WoroSiWoro) to tackle poverty and disseminate information at the grassroots level. Mr Gabriel Ashe, Special Adviser to the Chairman of the Local Government, on Information and Public Enlightenment, unveiled the movement on Monday in Badagry.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ashe, the Principal Convenor, said WoroSiWoro was all about the movement identifying people’s problems and challenges, profer solutions and escalate issues affecting their well beings.“This movement will serve as platform to disseminate information to our people at the grassroots“.

Our style is to go into our remote communities with the assistance of our 20 coordinators across Badagry federation, to serve as rally point. “We will get first hand information about the needs of our people, source for material and financial resources and deliver same directly, to the beneficiaries.” We will do this without any iota of discrimination.“WoroSiWoro movement agenda cannot stand alone, we will surely partner with other Non Governmental Organisations (NGO) and government bodies to see how we can give succour to the needy.” It’s all about serving humanity,” he said.

Ashe said that the movement would equally be focusing on distribution of foodstuffs for the aged and the hungry, while educational packages would be given to indigent children. “There is going to be health packages for the sick and the widows and widowers“. I have taken it upon myself to put this agenda in perspective to reach out, bridge the gaps and assure hope for the hopeless and address the needs of the people.” All I need from you is to support me with this initiative morally, materially and financially.

“Finally, I will need you all to encourage me and support me to achieve these and many more for our people,” said Ashe. Pledging his support, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Pioneer, Real Acts of Kindness (RAK), promised to support the movement to realise its dreams. Ogunlende said he was delighted to be part of the movement, while urging it to reach out to the communities and villages, to make the changes.

He urged the 20 volunteers working for the movement to work according to its vision and missions. “There is strength in collaboration, without partnership and collaboration, things will not move forward“. You are very critical to this movement, for voluntarily donating yourself for this service, your reward is in heaven,” he said. Ogunlende said that he gave his support for the movement, because it was initiated to reach the vulnerable in the communities and villages in Badagry.

In his remarks, Mr Idris Aregbe, Lagos State Youth Organising Secretary for the All Progressives Party (APC), commended the Principal Convenor, for creating the forum to reach out to the grassroots in Badagry. Aregbe said that this was a way of bringing development to the people at the grassroots level. He said that this was the time for the youths to render the best to their communities.

Supreme reports that the 20 volunteers of the movement were administered oath of office by a Barrister, to defend the aims and objectives of the movement. Supreme also reports that community leaders, youth leaders and important personalities in the three councils of Badagry graced the occasion.
