The Bauchi State Urban Water and Sewerage Corporation (BSUWSC), says it has completed repair works on 1000/900mm pipe supplying water to Bauchi metropolis.

A statement by Mr Umar Jubrin, Spokesman of the Corporation, on Sunday in Bauchi, said that suspected vandals on July 15, vandalised the main pumping pipe at Gubi Treatment Plant.

Jubrin said the incident necessitated the immediate shutdown of the treatment plant and water supply services to the residents of the metropolis.

He said the repair work was inline with directive of Gov. Bala Mohammed, who ordered the Corporation to work round the clock, to ensure resumption of uninterrupted water supply to the metropolis on or before the Sallah day.

Jubrin also quoted the Managing Director of the Corporation, Mr Aminu Gital, as commending the governor for prompt procurement of materials used in fixing the destruction caused to the reticulation system.

“The damage caused as a result of the vandalisation of the 1000/900mm pumping main pipe carrying water from the Gubi Water Treatment Plant to Warinje Hill Reservoir has been fixed successfully.

“The Management of the Corporation are in full compliance with the directive of Gov. Bala Mohammed, to work day and night, to ensure resumption of quality water supply to Bauchi metropolis on or before the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

“We have made it. Supply of quality water has been restored to Bauchi metropolis at about 4:00 pm, on July 19.

“The Managing Director commended the governor for his prompt response towards the immediate procurement of materials and fittings.

“This is a clear testimony that the good people of Bauchi State are lucky to have you as their governor.

“We are sorry for the inconveniences,” Gital was quoted as saying in the statement.

While apologising to the customers over the disruption in water supply, Gital, appreciated them for their understanding and support to the Corporation.

The statement recalled that suspected vandals on July 15, invaded Gubi Dam and removed four number iron burglar proof of the air release valve chambers.

It said that the vandals turned off the air release valves while production and pumping were still on at the treatment plant, an action which resulted to a serious burst of the 1000/900mm pipe.
