Mr Iliya Habila, Chairman, Bogoro Local Government Council of Bauchi State has called for stronger collaboration with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to fast track grassroots development.

Habila made the call when he paid a courtesy visit to the Bauchi Zonal office of the Agency on Friday in Bauchi.

He said that the visit was to congratulate the new Zonal Manager, Mr Rabiu Sani-Ali and to further build a cordial relationship between the council and NAN.

The chairman said that the council would leverage on the multimedia and other services of the Agency to showcase its programmes.

According to him, Gov. Bala Mohammed-led administration has achieved so much in the past two years, hence the need for the agency to be at the forefront in publicising government’s policies and programmes.

“The present administration has community-driven activities in all sectors of human endeavours.

“NAN is known for its credibility, objectivity, fairness, accuracy and timeliness.

“Bogoro LGA is soliciting for partnership with NAN for human development,’’ the chairman said.

He recalled that when he was in the agency, he made lots of sacrifices to make the Agency great.

“Gov. Mohammed was also a former NAN staff and a media friendly.

“Therefore, NAN should be at the top in reporting the activities of the present administration.’’

Habila urged staff of the Agency in Bauchi to be committed and display high sense of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Responding, Sani-Ali described his appointment as challenging in view of the role the Agency needed to play and contribute positively towards addressing social, economic and security challenges in the Northeast.

He said that the management of the Agency had adopted proactive measures to transform its operations and accorded priority to grassroots reportage to serve the people better and achieve sustainable development.

He urged the staff to show greater commitments and dedication towards promoting the government policies and programmes

He also urged the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) to make use of the Agency’s platforms to create awareness on their programmes for sustainable development of the state.

Habila was a former editor of NAN and a one-time Chairman, Bauchi State Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ).

He also served as Special Assistant on Media to the former Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogora before his election as Chairman, Bogoro LGC.
