Babatunde Fatai-Williams, President, Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAF) said that the annual Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Swimming championship would hold before the end of the year.

The president said the federation was yet to get clearance from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development after the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19's call for the resumption of non-contact sports.

“We are yet to get official clearance from the Ministry to know if the sport is permitted to begin activities because the PTF only mentioned a few sports.

“Hopefully, before the end of the week we will get a response from them.

“Meanwhile, the CNS championship will still be organised this year. We have already gotten approval from the Nigerian Navy authorities but waiting for the clearance from Ministry.

“Once we get the clearance, we will inform states to start getting ready for the competition, finalise the date and the venue.

“We will have to look for a venue that will comply with COVID-19 protocols. It has to be a venue that is quite spacious and not crowded like the National Stadium, Lagos which we used in 2019,’’
