The Chief Medical Director of the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano (AKTH) Prof. Abdurrahman Sheshe, has directed reopening of speciality clinics in the hospital. In a statement signed by the hospital’s spokesperson, Mrs Hauwa Muhammed, on Friday, Sheshe directed that the clinics should reopen on Monday.According to the statement, Sheshe gave the directive while receiving items worth N16 million donated to the hospital by a WhatsApp group. It said the group known as “Concerned Group”, was formed for the purposes of providing consumables and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the hospital. It noted that all speciality clinics in the state suspended services in the past six weeks due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. It said She expressed gratitude to the group for the donation, and pledged its effective utilisation. It said that while presenting the donation on behalf of the donors, some of whom were staff of the hospital, Mr Sani Umar, said the idea to generate fund to purchase consummables to the hospital was due to infection of doctors and health workers by virus due to lack of adequate PPEs.It said that the donors were aware that AKTH was recieving patients beyond its catchment areas of Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states. The group, according to the statement, said the hospital was over-stretched, and there was the need to put heads together to ensure continued services to patients.
