Gov Hope Uzodinma of Imo has donated foodstuff to various churches in Imo to cushion the economic effects of the lockdown occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Oguike Nwachukwu made the disclosure in a statement he issued in Owerri on Friday.

Nwachukwu said the donations were borne out of the governor’s concern for the welfare of the masses and his determination to provide succour to the people.

According to him, the state government donated 4,000 bags of 10kg rice, 1,000 tubers of yam, 40 cartons of tomatoes and 40 cartons of vegetable oil to the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri.

“The Anglican Archdiocese of Owerri received 2,000 bags of 10kg rice, 1,000 tubers of yam, 10 cartons of vegetable oil and 10 cartons of tomatoes.

“The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) also got 100 bags of 25kg rice, 1,000 tubers of yam, 10 cartons of tomatoes and 10 cartons of vegetable oil.

The governor however, praised the efforts of the churches in assisting and partnering with the government in the enormous task of stopping the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

He urged them to ensure that the items got to those they were meant for.

He solicited the continuous cooperation of the churches in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and prayed for divine intervention to end the virus soon.
