The Navy Sailing Club said it would ensure a hitch free competition for sailors participating in the 2nd Francis Olo Boat race holding in Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos.

Tunde Giwa-Daramola, the Commodore of the club, in a statement issued in Lagos, said the event would hold on Saturday, to commemorate the 2021 Democracy Day.

“June 12 marks Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebration and the Navy Sailing Club is leaving nothing to chance in ensuring that the day is memorable for sailors and members.

“To mark the special occasion, the Navy Sailing Club has put in place adequate measures to ensure a hitch-free event for participants and exciting experience for members and visitors,” he said.

According to Giwa-Daramola, the new Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Jason Gbassa, will be the special guest of the event.

“Eminent personalities in the military, the business world, maritime sector and others will be gracing this occasion.

“I want our members to turn out in their numbers to cheer the sailors as they display their skills as a way of encouraging them to reach their dreams of representing the country at national and international levels.

“The Navy Sailing Club had in the past produced national athletes that have made Nigeria proud through the Nigeria Rowing, Sailing and Canoeing Federation,” he said.
