Mr Okafor Emefesi, the President, Couples Network International, an NGO, has solicited for media support to enlighten citizens of the dangers of indiscriminate divorce in the society.

Emefesi made the call during an advocacy visit to the Bauchi Zponal Manger of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Rabiu Ali, on Wednesday.

Couples Network is a faith-based NGO seeking to reduce the rate of divorce in Bauchi State.

Emefesi said the visit was to strengthen the existing cordial relationship between the two organisations.

He said that their goal was to restore broken marriages and counsel intending couples.

“United and peaceful families will produce a moral and disciplined society.

“Broken homes have become endemic in the society.

”We want to establish a counselling and conference centre in the state,” he said.

Emefesi explained that the centre would be manned by professionals to conduct pre-marital counselling and resolve marital issues.

He said that it had plans to partner with other faith based organisations in the state on similar programmes.

According to him, it will host an award day to celebrate 20 couples who have spent 25 years and above in marriage.

Responding, Ali urged the organisation to conduct more research on the root causes of divorce in the state and proffer solutions.

He noted that broken homes had affected the society negatively, adding that such actions had ignited increase in social vices and collapse of family institution.

“I am happy that your NGO is working towards restoring family institution and encouraging positive cultural practices,” the manager said.

Ali pledged the support of news agency towards building a stable and prosperous society.
