Mr Ikechi Uko, Tourism Expert and organiser of Akwaaba African Travel Market, is set to promote tourism potentials of four Nigerian cities through mega familiarisation trip during the maiden Abuja Jabamah.

Uko, in a statement on Saturday, explained that the, “Familiarisation Trip” was aimed at four cities in Nigeria namely: Abuja, Kaduna, Calabar and Lagos.

According to him, it is aimed at exploring and promoting their tourism potentials for domestic tourism.

He said the organiser would also use the avenue to expose local tour operators and hotels to their foreign counterparts to promote domestic and outbound tourism.

According to him, the familiarisation trip will feature three nights in Abuja as participants get to know Africa’s most Modern City with a day trip by the first Standard Gauge Rail in West Africa to Kaduna.

“The trip will continue with a flight to Calabar, for participants to be a part of the World famous Carnival Calabar’s 2nd Dry Run on Nov. 19 and a day in Lagos, stretching from Nov. 15 to 21.

“Abuja Jabamah is an event by the organisers of the annual AKWAABA African Travel Market in Nigeria, Accra Weizo in Ghana and BANTABA Nigeria in partnership with www.ATQNews.com.

“At Jabamah, exhibitors will be able to schedule meetings with about 100 tour operators from Abuja, Jos, Kaduna, Benue and Kano, and we hope to achieve value as we aim at reaching Northern Nigeria.

“We will also explore tourism potential and market in smaller groups to the travel agents, tour operators and entire travel public.

“Abuja Jabamah will play host to a huge travelling population, hotels, tour operators and travel agents, who have over the years largely depended on the Lagos market and trade shows for exposure,” Uko stated.

The organiser said the event would also be used to celebrate the awards of Abuja Top 50 Tourism Pioneers and Top 50 New Hotels in Abuja at the Travelers Night on November 17.

He also called on travel and tourism experts, stakeholders and the general public to send in their nominations for the two award categories.

According to him, Abuja Top 50 Tourism Pioneers award was set up to recognize individuals, who have distinguished themselves as pioneers in the travel and tourism industry in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

“These are people that through their efforts or that of their organisations, they have impacted positively on the travel and tourism sector across Nigeria.

“They are also those whose efforts have stimulated and helped to achieve their individual country’s tourism goals and forging interactions among stakeholders and customers across the country.

“Abuja Top 50 New Hotels is aimed at recognising the latest hotels with top class infrastructure with exceptional services that will be selected for the award after initial nominations was approved with assessment of facility,” he said.
