The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Makurdi, and six other hospitals in Benue, have won the quarterly best viral load coverage and suppression sites awards of the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC).

Performing the ceremony on Wednesday, via Zoom and monitored in Makurdi, CDC-Nigeria Laboratory Branch Chief, Mr McPaul Okoye, said the hospitals were rewarded for their outstanding performances.

Supreme reports that the event was organised by CDC, Georgia, in conjunction with AIDs Prevention Initiative Nigeria (APIN) and Public Health Initiatives.

Okoye said the organisation was awarding the health facilities and individuals for their outstanding performance in the first quarter of 2021.

Presenting the awards to the hospitals, Okoye, described FMC Makurdi and the other hospitals as some of the critical facilities that had performed excellently in viral load coverage and suppression, and deserved commendation.

The benefitting hospitals include: NSKT Hospital, Mkar; Bishop Murray Medical Center, Makurdi; Vandeikya General Hospital; St. Anthony’s Hospital ,Zaki Biam; NKST Hospital, Zaki Biam and St. Vincents, Aliade.Earlier, the CDC Country Director, Mary Boyd, congratulated the awardees for demonstrating high level of innovations, commitment and resilience in their various facilities.

Supreme reports that Delta, Enugu, FCT, Imo, Lagos, Nasarawa, Benue and Gombe states all won best surge team for the quarter. Ten individuals also received different categories of awards at the ceremony.
