FRSC charges airport cab drivers to project Nigeria’s image positively

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has charged airport cab operators to be good ambassadors of Nigeria as they convey incoming passengers visiting the country during the Yuletide to their various destinations.

The Commander of RS2.110, Lagos Airport Command, Mr Judge Daniel, gave the charge while flagging off the ember months rally for members of the Airports Car Hire Association of Nigeria (ACHAN), Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

Daniel urged the cab operators to desist from acts capable of smearing the country’s good image before visitors, and refrain from consuming substances that would inhibit their good judgement while driving.

He said: “You must continue to exhibit the traits of being Nigerian ambassadors as you convey visitors from the airports to their different destinations.

“The airport environment where you operate is the first point of call for anybody visiting the country during the Yuletide. You are therefore expected to portray yourself as a positive image of the country.”

Daniel said that the FRSC would not condone violation of its critical road rules and regulations, and would take action against drivers nabbed for offences such as no seat belt, over speeding and the use of expired tyre among others.

While urging ACHAN to imbibe the culture of safe driving among its members, he said the FRSC was always ready to collaborate with them in areas of education and sensitisation.

Also speaking, Mr Nnamdi Asuoha, Unit Coordinator, Unit 83, Lagos Airport Command, said the sensitisation exercise was aimed at keeping the limousine operators abreast of current safety rules and regulations of the FRSC.

On his part, Chief Segun Ashade, a member of the trustees of ACHAN, lauded the FRSC for the collaboration which he said would improve safety on Nigerian roads, especially during the busy Yuletide.

He, however appealed to the FRSC to simplify the process of acquiring driver’s license, stressing that the association does not condone disobedience of traffic rules and regulations among its members.
