Golden Globe: Regina King determined to cast more women in films

Hollywood actress, Regina King picked her first Golden Globes award at the 2019 ceremony and vowed to cast more women in future projects.

The Golden Globe Awards are accolades bestowed by the 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association beginning in January 1944, recognizing excellence in film and television, both domestic and foreign.

The 76th edition was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, California on Sunday night.

King took home a Golden Globe for her performance in “If Beale Street Could Talk” on Sunday night at the 76th annual Golden Globe Awards.

She won Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for the film, based on a James Baldwin book of the same title.

During her acceptance speech, the actress vowed to use her platform to ensure women are represented in her future projects.

“I am going to use my platform right now, to say, in the next two years, everything that I produce – I am making a vow.

“And it’s going to be tough to make sure that everything that I produce, that it’s 50 percent women.

“And I just challenge anyone out there, who is in a position of power, not just in our industry, in all industries, I challenge you to challenge yourselves and stand with us in solidarity and do the same,” she said.

This was King’s third Golden Globe nomination. She received a nod in 2016 for her role in ‘American Crime’ and this year for her performance in Netflix’s ‘Seven Seconds.’

Meanwhile, ’Bohemian Rhapsody’ won the night’s top award, shortly after Rami Malek won best actor for his prosthetic teeth-aided performance as Mercury.
