Gov’s wife lauds President Buhari for Nigeria’s polio-free status

Dr Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, wife of Kebbi Governor on Wednesday applauded the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari at ensuring that Nigeria is polio-free.

She made the commendation at the official celebration of World Polio Day held at the Emir of Argungu palace in Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi.

“We must appreciate the gigantic efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari in whose tenure Nigeria was declared polio-free.

“We want to also appreciate the Kebbi State Governor, Sen. Abubakar Bagudu, our royal fathers, especially the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad-Mera who is a symbol of the fight against polio, and religious leaders, for their collective support and contributions,” she said.

Mrs Shinkafi-Bagudu explained that immunisation in Kebbi had received significant attention backed with punctual and significant funds by the government.

In his speech, the State Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Jafar Muhammad expressed happiness that Nigeria has overcome the poliomyelitis scourge.

The commissioner commended Argungu Emirate as well as other Emirates in the state for their support in eradicating polio and supporting other government policies and programmes.

He lauded the tireless support of development partners, which facilitated the success.

The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad-Mera observed that it was good for anybody in position of authority to assist his people when the need arises.

He said the fight to eradicate polio from Nigeria was a collective one, hence the need to appreciate all for their wonderful contributions.

The Emir pledged the readiness of all tradition rulers, across the state, to support not only the fight against poliomyelitis, but also all other policies and programmes of government.

He thanked the state governor for coopting traditional and religious leaders into the fight against polio, which he said had yielded positive results.
