The Journalists International Forum For Migration (JIFORM) says it will partner with Ghana-based NEKOTECH Center of Excellence, on the Africa Media Summit slated for Jan. 21 – 22, 2021.

Mr Ajibola Abayomi, the President of JIFORM, who disclosed this in a statement made available to Newsmen on Friday in Abuja, said the summit’s theme had been modified to ‘Migration, Trade and Investment’ to accommodate vital migration business interests that Africa could tap into.

JIFORM, which has its headquarters in Nigeria, has membership of over 250 journalists spread across the world focused on reporting on migration issues.

The President explained that because migration had become big business that goes beyond mere travelling as migrants to economic developers, there was the need to open them to required skills, and for Africans to also expand the scope of available opportunities in the continent that would limit irregular migration.

“We considered it imperative to work with the NEKOTECH Center of Excellence because of the pedigree of the founder, Dr. Naa-Asie Ocansey.

“This is because her passion to rid Africa of modern day slavery, being promoted through irregular migration by some ignorant minds, was second to none.

“Kafala must be abolished; end must come to deadly work. Now is the time to negotiate decent work.

“To champion advocacy against irregular migration, human trafficking, child and women labour and other migration menaces, we need more hands to work with, therefore, teaming up with NEKOTECH is a dream come true”, Abayomi said.

NEKOTECH Center of Excellence is a multiple award-winning center located in Ada, Ghana. Its pedigree can be found in its programming as a centre for labour Migration Diplomacy that undertakes key government migration consultancy projects, including undertaking diplomatic relations management and preparing workers for successful migration.

The center is well-known for its job-readiness and migrant pre-departure training programs, as well as award-winning training and certification for maids and cleaners.

Besides NEKOTECH, He added, the Forum was still open for more people to join the at the summit because ”the room is wide enough to accommodate every relevant willing hand that is ready to work with us”.

Abayomi said that JIFORM had also extended an invitation to Mr. Tony Elumelu, award winning African economist, entrepreneur, philanthropist, Chairman of Heirs Holdings and United Bank of Africa (UBA), to grace the summit as the special Guest of Honour..

Elumelu would be making a presentation on ”Evaluation and Repositioning of African Economy, Post Covid-19” at the summit, Abayomi said, adding: “This is part of the efforts so far and we hope to to do more to ensure that the summit is a success. “
