20-year-old docked for alleged rape

For allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of a teenager, one Samod Ganiyu, aged 20, has appeared before an Ojo Magistrates' Court in Lagos State.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and rape.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Simeon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 9 at Iba New Site in Ojo, Lagos State.

He alleged that the defendant conspired with others at large and had sexual intercourse with a 19-year-old woman without her consent.

According to him, rape contravenes the provision of Sections 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 while conspiracy breaches Section 411 of the law.

Magistrate Ademola Adesanya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum

He adjourned the case until March 21 for mention.
