Libyan Minister of Justice Halima Abdul-Rahman met with European Union (EU) officials on Wednesday and discussed European support for the Libyan government.

During the meeting, the head of EU civilian missions, Francisco Esteban Perez and EU Ambassador to Libya Jose Sabadell expressed their satisfaction with the cooperation between the Libyan ministry and the EU.

She said that the EU was committed to strengthening the partnership with Libya, especially in fields as criminal justice.

Abdul-Rahman praised the cooperation between the two parties, stressing the ministry’s keenness in promoting the rule of law, respecting human rights, and fighting impunity.

She confirmed that the ministry was making great efforts to guarantee the success of the upcoming elections later this year through cooperation with the National Elections Commission.

Abdul-Rahman said that the ministry paid great attention to national reconciliation and confirmed that the ministry made great efforts to release those forcibly detained and improve the conditions inside detention centres for illegal immigrants.

She also said the ministry was empowering women within official institutions as another area where the ministry was keenly interested.
