SOCCER IRONY: MESSI’S STATUE SUFFERS DRASTIC INJURY

Football guru Lionel Messi has gracefully escaped injury woes in his very successful career, but this is not the case for his bronze statue erected in Paseo de la Gloria in June 2016. The very magnificent statue has been injured twice since erected with this one more drastic.

The five time Ballon D’or winner’s bronze sculpture on Paseo de la Gloria was vandalised on Monday, chopped off at the ankles with the body left on the pavement.

Appropriately perhaps, given how difficult it is to pry it away from him on the pitch, the ball remained stuck to the left boot at the base of the statue.

Since installed in June, 2016 the statue has been a regular target for vandals and in January it was cut in half at the waist.

Lovers of Lionel Messi would always wish their football icon 100% fitness no matter what the case is for his bronze statue.
