The Zaria Branch of Nigeria Bar Association, (NBA) has called for the introduction of Virtual Court Proceedings to enhance speedy trial of cases in the Kaduna State.

The Zaria branch Chairman of the Association, Mr Hussaini Abdu made the call in an interview with Newsmen on Tuesday.

He said that the branch would work closely with the Bench and other key stakeholders for the introduction of virtual proceedings in the state, as many cases have suffered delay since the lockdown of courts due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Abdu noted that some states have introduced virtual proceedings, helping the judiciary to dispense justice on time.

Abdu who assumed office on June 27, said his major vision was to unite members of the branch to enhance their jobs.

“There are a lot of members in the branch as we currently have close to 500.

“And now that we have assumed office, I will use the opportunity to unite members, treat everybody equal and try as much as possible to work with every member of the branch,’’ he said.

He also pledged to make the branch ICT compliant in line with best practices.

“The relationship between the Bar and Bench is not good as there is still fracas, so we will try as much as possible to re-establish the relationship for the benefit of everybody.

“In fact the larger public will benefit in the activities of lawyers because we have so many outlets of helping litigants that are indigents and we want use this mandate as an avenue to improve on it,’’Abdu said.

Those elected alongside the chairman, included Gambo Abubakar as Vice Chairman; Ahmed-Tijjani Abubakar, Secretary; Bashir Musa, Assistant Secretary; Maryam Halidu, Treasurer and Adamu Lawal, Financial Secretary.

Others are: Bala Ishaq, Social Secretary; Hassan Liman, Publicity Secretary; Garba Sadiq, Provost and Mohammed A. Yaki, Legal Adviser.
