Awoyele Olakunle, a Kickboxer from Edo state has decried poor facilities in the kickboxing event at the National sports Festival tagged: “Edo 2020” currently holding in Benin.

Olakunle, who won the gold medal in the 71kg low-kick male category said on Monday in Benin, that many athletes got injured due to the poor facilities.

The African champion appealed to the Kickboxing Federation of Nigeria to improve the standard of the game.

“It feels great when you win the gold medal. But when I look at all the circumstances surrounding my victory, I feel disappointed.

“The federation needs to work on this.

“If you also look at the ring we compete on, it is not very good at all. Most of us cannot give out our best in the ring because the ring ground is not that conducive.

“It is of low standard compared with what you see outside the country. It is not even up to amateur level. The ring gives most of us injury,” he added.
