Rep member calls for inclusion of Ebonyi in ambassadorial list

Mr Chinedu Ogah, member representing Ezza south/Ikwo Federal Constituency in Ebonyi, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to include an indigene of the state in the list of career ambassadors.

The lawmaker made the call in a statement released in Abakaliki on Wednesday and made available to newsmen.

Ogah, elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), regretted that no Ebonyi indigene made the President’s 42-man list of ambassadors-designate released by the presidency on Tuesday, May 12.

The nomination was contained in a letter he addressed to the Senate President, Mr Ahmad Lawan, requesting the confirmation of the nominees.

However, Ogah observed that the list did not contain any indigene from the state as nominee and called for the state to be included in the list.

The parliamentarian argued that there was no reason his state should be excluded from the ambassadorial list, stressing that the state supported and voted for the president massively in the 2019 presidential election.

He added that Buhari defeated his closest rival, Mr Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the polls in his Ikwo local government area.

He noted that there were lots of civil servants from Ebonyi at the federal level whom he said were eminently qualified to make the list of career ambassadors.

He, therefore, urged the government to search for them and include them to ensure that the state was not left out in the ambassadorial positions.

Ogah, also expressed dismay at the exclusion of Ebonyi in the National Judicial Council (NJC) appointment in which about 33 judges were appointed at the Federal Capital Territory.

He urged the federal government to always apply the principles of federal character in any appointment it made to ensure equity and justice.

“Whenever appointment is to be made, the principles of federal character should be used to give every zone sense of belonging because it promotes equity, oneness and justice, “he said.

Ogah however, urged the South-East zone to rally round the president for more democracy dividends.
