The Rotary club of Jos Central, District 9125, has donated 20 stall umbrellas and 50 aprons to traders in Gada biu market in Jos North Local Government Area.

Speaking at the presentation on Tuesday in Jos, Mrs Yemisi Ikwu, President of the club, said the gesture was to reduce the hardship traders in the market were facing in selling their goods, especially during rains.

“One of the focus of rotary is impacting humanity through our selfless services. The donation is part of our economic empowerment and disease control programme.

’’The apron would ensure the safekeeping of their money and would enable them to cover themselves.

“This month’s theme is basic education and literacy , we are organising a literary quiz competition in Kabong community, in Jos North Local Government Area for 30 schools and we are drilling a bore hole in the same community,” Ikwu said.

She said the club would also organise counselling for nursing mothers as part of efforts to address post- partum syndrome, adding that it would conduct screening for early detection of kidney infection for residents of kabong community.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mrs Lydia Wai , a mother of seven, thanked rotary for the gesture, saying it was a relief from the scorching sun and protection from rains in the market.

Wai, a widow, said the gesture would ensure a more conductive environment for business activities and help them to sustain their families.

Dr Victor Onukwugha, Governor of District 9125, Rotary international, urged the traders to use the items with care, saying the organisation was committed to assisting indigent persons in the society.
