Some students of Methodist Girls High School, Lagos have embarked on a project to actualise the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) number two, which is 'Zero Hunger by 2030’.

According to the UN, about 690 million people are hungry globally.

Supreme reports that the students were in the Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) grade.

They participated in a panel discussion and a drama sketch to highlight some issues related to hunger and ways to eradicate it on Friday in Lagos.

The students added that hunger was not just the lack of access to food, but the lack of access to food containing the right nutrients.

They added that hunger could come in different forms, including malnutrition and starvation.

According to them, intentional steps, such as food donations, reduction of wastages, good storage facilities and interest in farming could help to eradicate hunger.

The students, however, called on individuals and corporate organisations to contribute to achieving Zero Hunger by showing love, empathy and giving to the less privileged.

Ms Olatunbosun Arode, Head Tutor of the Class told Newsmen that the girls were being groomed to be at the forefront, in solving societal problems through critical thinking.

Arode said that the team planned on making the project bigger in order to expand their scope.

The Project Coordinator, Miss Hikmah Adetunji also said the team took timeout to educate the JSS 1 students on how hunger could be eradicated.

“Being a part of this project has taught me not to misuse my privileges and not to waste food because there are others out there who are hungry,’’she said.

One of the Panelists, Miss Toluwabori Akingbehin, urged youngsters to help eradicate hunger in order to avoid a disastrous and chaotic society.
