A new movie on sex-trafficking on the international stage, “ Breakout” will premiere in the United States of America on Nov. 17.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) said in a report on trafficking in persons that the most common form of human trafficking (79 percent) was for sexual exploitation.

UNODC said that based on data gathered from 155 countries, the victims of sexual exploitation are predominantly women and girls.

Miss Juliet Mbonu, the Producer, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the telephone from Brookeville, Maryland, Washington DC on Friday that the movie focused on the trafficking industry.

“ The movie took an in-depth look at the trafficking industry, including rarely seen aspects of recruitment and transit to final locations, for the illicit trade and sexual tourism,” she said.

According to her, victims can be found anywhere, but the movie includes victims from Africa with a special focus on Nigeria.

“ Breakout was shot on locations in the US and Nigeria. It provides a look at the intricate web in the recruitment of low –skilled young women for prostitution around the world.

“ The movie details how the traffickers gain psychological control of the victims, the dehumanizing treatment of the victims and the various criminal dimensions of the industry,” she said.

Mbonu urged individuals, organizations concerned with human sex-trafficking and human sex trafficking advocates in the world to watch the movie.

The producer also called on countries affected by the illicit trade or whose citizens had been trafficked to also watch the film.

“ The are so many lessons to be learned from the movie. We hope that it will make our girls resist

being lured into prostitution because it is risky.

“We also believe that countries affected by the trade should counsel their citizens on the dangers of sex-trafficking and prostitution,” she said.
