Sir Chief Dr. M.T.B. Memberr, whose life we celebrate, was the son of late Mr Haddington Beddie Memberr and late Mrs Patience Beddie Memberr; and grandson of late Chief Memberr Brigg – one of the eleven founding fathers of Abonnema, Kalabari kingdom, in Rivers State. He was the first son of his father and has seven siblings; four boys (Norman, Elekima, Gilly, Kaleti) and three girls (Augusta, Pakiri, Ineoseba).
Born on the 2nd day of June 1932, in Memberr compound, Abonnema, Kalabari kingdom; coincidently on the same day his father, Beddie was born. This was significant, and as a result of this, he was treated specially. He was named Malcolm, chosen in memory of an expatriate friend of his father.
Growing up, he usually pushed around a toy trolley, bought by his father, which was not common at that time this earned him the nickname “Tolly”, a corruption of the word “Trolley”.
Chief Dr. M.T.B. member was very intelligent, patient and honorary. He was a man of peace and an unrepentant giver. Generously, hospitality, honesty, high integrity, transparency and unity were some of his key attributes
