Syrian Government, opposition and civil society envoys on Thursday would re-commence their meetings at the UN in Geneva after a three-day suspension.

The suspension was caused by COVID-19 infections among delegates, according to a UN statement.

According to the office of UN Syria envoy, Geir Pedersen, the talks on Syrian constitutional reform can resume, with full social distancing and related precautions in place.

On Monday, the delegates launched their first talks in nine months, but after a few hours, Swiss Health authorities ordered them to quarantine in their hotel rooms after four participants tested positive for coronavirus disease.

The intra-Syrian talks are meant to build trust among the opposing sides, to pave the way toward ending the civil war that has devastated the country over the course of more than nine years.
