The state of emergency declared on education in Yobe, is beginning to pay off, particularly at the basic education level, Gov. Mai Mala-Buni has said.

Mr Mamman Muhammed, the Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, said Mala-Buni made this known when he received the management of Nigeria Tullip International Colleges (NTIC) in Damaturu.

He said education remains top on his administration’s priority.

”The declaration of state of emergency on primary and basic education by in the last two years had been fruitful.

“When we declared the state of emergency, we provided infrastructure, books and retrained our teachers and l am happy to say the state has progressively moved forward in education.

”The performance of students in the state in external examinations like WAEC and NECO has also improved from 35th and 36th position to between 14th and 16th position.

”We are committed to rejuvenating education in the state inspite of the high cost involved.

“Education is very costly, it is a project you keep investing and takes long time to mature but we are very committed to invest in it, as it is a compass to the future of the state” Buni said.

Responding, Mr Fexzullah Bilgin, Managing Director (MD) NTIC, commended Gov. Mala-Buni for giving priority to education.

”The commitment of the governor has encouraged colleges to continue providing quality education.

”There is a great improvement in the performance of students we coached for JAMB in the last two years” he said.

Bilgin solicited for more partnership between the college and Yobe government for more improvement in the educational development of the state.
